Allegations Against Suspended UNICAL Law Faculty Dean
The suspended Dean of the Faculty of Law at the University of Calabar (UNICAL), Professor Cyril Ndifon, is facing serious allegations of sexual harassment and corruption.
The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) spokesperson, Azuka Ogugua, revealed this in a statement issued on Monday in Abuja.
ICPC’s Decision to File Criminal Charges
The ICPC’s decision to file criminal charges against Professor Ndifon stems from a thorough investigation into allegations of gross misconduct involving some of his students.
According to the charge sheet, which bears the number FHC/ABJ/CR/511/2023 and was released by the Commission, the Senior Lecturer is being arraigned on a four-count charge.
These charges are related to sexual harassment, official corruption, and abuse of office, all in violation of Sections 8, 18, and 19 of the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act 2000.
Upcoming Legal Proceedings
The Commission has disclosed that Professor Ndifon will be brought before a court on a date to be determined by the court.
It’s important to note that the ICPC, in collaboration with the Department of State Services (DSS), arrested Professor Ndifon on the 4th of October, 2023, in Calabar, Cross River State.
This action followed his repeated refusal to respond to several invitations from the authorities.
Conclusion:
The allegations against Professor Cyril Ndifon are serious and raise concerns about ethical conduct within academic institutions.
The decision to file criminal charges reflects a commitment to addressing allegations of sexual harassment and corruption, which are issues of great significance.
The upcoming legal proceedings will play a pivotal role in determining the outcome of these allegations and, if substantiated, could lead to legal consequences for the suspended Dean.
This case highlights the importance of addressing misconduct within educational institutions and ensuring a safe and ethical learning environment for students.
