British couple killed on honeymoon in Uganda
A British couple were killed on their honeymoon in Uganda after they were ambushed by terrorists.
David Barlow, 50, and his wife Celia, 51, were shot dead in a hail of bullets when insurgents fleeing Ugandan forces happened upon their truck at random.
Their guide 40-year-old Ugandan Eric Alyai was also gunned down before the killers, thought to be part of the ISIS-linked Allied Democratic Force, set fire to the truck and fled.
Victims were newlyweds and visited Uganda on their honeymoon
The couple had been married just a few days ago in South Africa’s Western Cape.
Their bodies and the flaming wreckage were recovered from the Queen Elizabeth National Park in the west of Uganda.
British government provides support to Ugandan authorities
Tory MP for Newbury Laura Farris paid her respects to the couple and said that the British government is providing support to the Ugandan authorities to track down and capture the perpetrators of the attack.
Ugandan President condemns the attack
In a press conference last night, the Ugandan President, Yoweri Museveni, condemned the attack and said that the terrorists will pay with their own lives.
Colleagues and friends pay tribute to the couple
Dr Sarah Marshman, a clerk at Hampstead Norreys parish council, where Mr Barlow lived, confirmed his death and said that the tragic news had reached members of the council this morning.
Oliver Laurence, the club secretary of Hampstead Norreys Cricket Club, also paid his respects to the couple and said that Dave Barlow was a constant around the club for many years.
He also said that Celia was an amazing human being and that the entire club’s thoughts and prayers are with the couple’s families.
