“Tragic Loss: Nine Captives, Including Foreigners, Killed in Gaza Airstrikes”
Hamas’ armed wing reported on Saturday that over the past 24 hours, nine captives, including four foreigners, lost their lives due to Israeli airstrikes in Gaza.
A statement from Al Qassam Brigades, released on its Telegram channel, cited the Zionist bombardment as the cause of their deaths.
Deadly Convoy Airstrike
An Israeli airstrike on a Palestinian convoy fleeing northern Gaza, said to be on a route approved by the Israeli Defence Force (IDF), resulted in the tragic loss of as many as 70 lives on Friday.
According to the Hamas-run Palestinian health ministry, women and children as young as two to five were among the casualties.
The IDF had granted 1.1 million civilians just 24 hours to evacuate to the south of the territory, with the deadline ending at 3 am BST.
Following this, the IDF announced that Gazans could safely flee via two main roads between 10 am and 4 pm local time (8 am – 2 pm BST).
However, many Palestinians are encountering difficulties escaping from areas targeted by the Israeli military, compounded by a growing water crisis resulting from Israel’s cessation of resources to the region.
Tragic Scenes and Aftermath
Reports and videos emerged, depicting the aftermath of the strike. The BBC’s Verify service confirmed that the strike occurred on Salah-al-Din street, one of the two evacuation routes from north Gaza to the south.
Despite the evacuation order, some civilians are reluctant to leave, expressing concerns about the safety of Gaza.
The video footage displayed mangled bodies, with most of the victims appearing to be women and children, some as young as two to five years old.
The Palestinian health ministry attributed the attack to Israel and reported that 70 people lost their lives at the scene.
Sky News sought a response from the IDF’s Lieutenant Colonel Peter Lerner, who expressed a lack of awareness regarding IDF strikes at that location at the time.
He emphasized the need to establish the facts and mentioned the possibility that Hamas could be responsible, asserting the need for caution in forming judgments before obtaining all the facts.
