Sowore’s Critique of Atiku’s Remarks
Omoyele Sowore, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Action Alliance Congress (AAC), has expressed criticism toward former Vice President Atiku Abubakar for his recent statement regarding the late legal luminary, Gani Fawehinmi (SAN).
Atiku’s Commendation of Gani Fawehinmi
Atiku Abubakar, in a press conference held in Abuja, commended both Gani Fawehinmi and Nigerian journalist David Hundeyin for inspiring his investigation into President Bola Tinubu’s academic credentials. He acknowledged that Fawehinmi initiated this advocacy approximately 23 years ago and expressed his belief that Fawehinmi can now rest in peace, as the truth about Tinubu’s academic records has come to light.
Sowore’s Response to Atiku’s Statement
Reacting to Atiku’s statement, Omoyele Sowore took to X to share his perspective.
He recounted how Gani Fawehinmi had exposed Bola Tinubu as a certificate forger in 1999, resulting in humiliation and the damaging of Fawehinmi’s car.
Sowore pointed out that at that time, politicians like Atiku had ignored Fawehinmi’s efforts, and Fawehinmi had passed away facing challenges.
Moreover, Sowore highlighted how Atiku later formed alliances with Tinubu despite this history.
The Larger Issue of Opportunism
Sowore raised a broader issue in his response, criticizing opportunistic behavior among politicians in Nigeria.
He argued that the country’s failure to progress is due to the prevalence of selfish and unprincipled individuals who support wrongdoers while vilifying those who stand for justice.
He underscored the need for a revolutionary change in the political order to address this problem.
A Call for a Just Society
Sowore emphasized the importance of individuals who tirelessly and selflessly work for the betterment of society, including advocates in the justice system, journalists, and citizens who strive to create a fair and sane society.
He concluded by referencing Atiku’s praise for Gani Fawehinmi’s role in the journey of discovery, implying that actions speak louder than words in the pursuit of justice and change.
Omoyele Sowore’s response to Atiku Abubakar’s remarks highlights the complexities of Nigerian politics and the challenges faced by those who champion justice and truth in the country.
“When late Chief Gani Fawehinmi exposed @officialABAT as a fraud, a certificate forger, in 1999 he was humiliated, his car was smashed, the @atiku’s ignored him and he died a broken man.“
“It is the case for those fighting relentlessly and selflessly for the betterment of our society either as advocates in the temple of justice, journalists, or citizens throwing themselves on the frontlines to bring about a sane society.
”I just read @atiku’s press statement today praising Chief Gani Fawehinmi to high heavens for starting this journey of discovery.
“Let it be known that what has kept this country down is the size of its evil and selfish opportunists who celebrate crooks and vilify the just amongst its citizens. This is why our position remains a revolutionary change of political order.”
