The largest oil and gas producer in the UK’s North Sea waters has awarded The Wood Group a 330 million dollar (£262 million) contract, the company said on Monday.
The engineering and consulting firm announced a five-year contract with Harbour Energy, a move that will, according to the company, keep hundreds of employment in Aberdeen and the surrounding area.
Wood stated that it would supply the company with EPC (engineering, procurement, and construction) as well as O&M (operations and maintenance) services.
The company has announced that it will be exploring digitalization and decarbonization strategies for Harbour’s offshore assets.
“We are incredibly proud to have been selected and trusted by Harbour Energy to partner with them across their North Sea assets,” said Steve Nichol, executive president of operations at Wood.

We have worked on North Sea assets for over 50 years, and our team is highly skilled in the design and management of energy infrastructure with a focus on reducing emissions.
In a statement, Wood said, “This new agreement and new contracts are testament to Wood’s role as a trusted technical partner to the energy companies of the future, where our priority is to help our clients deliver the energy the world needs and be able to transition to a low carbon future.”
The initial contract term of five years can be extended by the companies by increments of one year, up to a maximum of five more years.
Wood’s operations business in Aberdeen and offshore will be able to “support the employment of hundreds of people” as a result. Wood anticipates launching a hiring push for open positions in 2024.
As Audrey Stewart, VP of supply chain for Harbour Energy, put it, “Harbour is excited to develop our relationship with Wood and the signing of this contract is an important step forward in establishing our suite of long-term strategic partnerships across our North Sea assets.”
