World Athletics Clears Tobi Amusan for World Championship Participation

World Athletics has granted sprinter Tobi Amusan permission to compete in the upcoming World Championship in Budapest, Hungary.

The announcement, originally made on the X platform (previously known as Twitter), came from the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU), which confirmed that Amusan had not violated any anti-doping rules.

The AIU stated that a majority decision from the Disciplinary Tribunal found that Tobi Amusan did not commit an Anti-Doping Rule Violation (ADRV) related to three Whereabouts Failures within a 12-month period.

AIU Head Brett Clothier expressed disappointment in the decision and mentioned that the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) would review the reasoning behind it in detail.

The AIU would then decide whether to exercise its right of appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) within the applicable deadline.

The details of the decision are currently confidential but will be made public in due course.

Amusan had initially faced provisional suspension by the AIU due to missing three drug tests.

However, the Nigerian athlete opted to contest the charge against her.

Notably, Tobi Amusan achieved a historic feat in Oregon, USA, last year.

She delivered an outstanding performance by setting a new world record of 12.12 seconds in the semi-final.

She further impressed with a wind-assisted time of 12.06 seconds (+2.5m/s) in the final, earning her the gold medal.

Despite her numerous successes, the World Championships has been the sole competition that Amusan has been unable to defend.

She successfully defended her titles in events such as the Nigerian Championships, African Championships, African Games, Commonwealth Games, and Diamond League.

The 2023 World Athletics Championships are scheduled to take place from August 19 to 27.
