Exclusive Carrier Approvals:
The Nigerian government has sanctioned three airlines to be the sole carriers for the upcoming 2024 Hajj pilgrimage. Among these, FlyNas from Saudi Arabia and Air Peace Ltd. have received approval.
Additionally, three licensed air cargo carriers—Qualla Investment Limited, Nahco Aviance, and Cargo Zeal Technologies Ltd.—will handle the airfreight of pilgrims’ excess baggage.
Official Press Release and Objectives:
A press release, attributed to Fatima Sanda Usara, the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria’s assistant director of public affairs, was issued, emphasizing the government’s commitment to ensuring a smooth and secure pilgrimage experience for intending Nigerian pilgrims.
Airlines and Allocations:
The selected airlines have specific allocations for transporting pilgrims from various Nigerian states. Air Peace will transport pilgrims from the Federal Capital Territory and multiple states, while FlyNas will serve pilgrims from other states.
Max Air, as the highest-allocated carrier, will transport pilgrims from several states as well.
Bilateral Agreements and State-Level Choices:
The distribution of pilgrims among airlines complies with the current Bilateral Air Service Agreement (BASA) between Saudi Arabia and Nigeria, operating within the government’s quota. However, individual state governments have the liberty to choose authorized freight companies for the transportation of their pilgrims’ extra luggage.
Upcoming MOU Signing:
An upcoming Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for the 2024 Hajj pilgrimage is set to be signed by a delegation from the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) on January 7, 2024, under the leadership of Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs. This MOU aims to formalize and finalize arrangements for the upcoming pilgrimage.
