The 94th Academy Awards nominees were released on Tuesday, and they included films from a variety of genres.
With 12 nominations, “The Power of the Dog” was the most nominated film. Jane Campion, the drama’s director, made history by becoming the first woman to be nominated for best director multiple times. (She had previously received an award for “The Piano.”)
Steven Spielberg, a fellow director nominee, also set a new milestone. Spielberg has now produced 11 films nominated for best picture, a new record for the Oscars, as producer of “West Side Story,” which had a total of seven nominations.
Denzel Washington extended the record he already holds as the most nominated Black actor, earning his tenth Oscar nomination for his performance in “The Tragedy of Macbeth.” (One of his nominations was for producing.)
