The beatification and canonization process of Servant of God Niña Ruíz-Abad commenced with an opening session at St. William the Hermit Cathedral in Laoag City, Philippines, on April 7, 2024.

Attendees were treated to a video reenactment of Ruíz-Abad’s life, offering a glimpse into her profound piety and love for God from a young age.

A Testament to Youthful Piety:

The video portrayed Ruíz-Abad as a devoted child, constantly engaged in prayer before the Blessed Sacrament and fervently distributing prayer cards and religious images to her peers.

Even when faced with a diagnosis of incurable heart disease, she remained steadfast in her faith, reassuring her mother with the words, “Don’t worry, Mommy; it’s okay — God will heal me!”

Inspiration for Today’s Youth:

Father Dennis Ruíz, the postulator of the cause, highlighted the significance of Ruíz-Abad’s example, particularly for today’s youth, drawing parallels with Blessed Carlo Acutis.

He emphasized the importance of providing a model of piety and fortitude for young people amidst the distractions of modern life, offering Ruíz-Abad’s unwavering faith as a guiding light.

Presentation of Official Portrait:

During the session, the official portrait of the Servant of God, painted by Filipino artist Ariel Caratao, was unveiled to the public, symbolizing the recognition of Ruíz-Abad’s sanctity and virtue.

Musical Tribute and Devotional Performances:

Dressed in traditional Filipino attire, the Divine Mercy Children’s Choir captivated the congregation with their heartfelt performances, including songs such as “Children’s Entrustment to the Immaculate Heart of Mary” and “Jesus, I Trust in You.”

Their rendition of the Chaplet of Divine Mercy added to the atmosphere of reverence and devotion during the ceremony.
